Riyadh Air, Huawei sign MoU to advance digital air connectivity
The phased development will begin with a focus on China, where 20% of smartphone users use Huawei devices.
Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s new national carrier, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei to advance the airline’s digital transformation.
Under the partnership, Huawei will support Riyadh Air’s broader digitalization efforts by leveraging its expertise in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, mobility services, and integrated digital ecosystems. The first phase of development will focus on China and other key international markets.
According to TechInsights, 20% of smartphone users in China use Huawei devices, providing Riyadh Air with an opportunity to leverage Huawei’s technology to build a market-specific digital ecosystem tailored to local social media platforms and market conditions, enabling more personalized and data-driven travel experiences.
Over time, the partnership is expected to expand into additional areas of digital innovation, including marketing, loyalty programs, cloud services, and advanced technologies.
“As the Kingdom raises its target to 150 million tourists by 2030, our partnership with Huawei strengthens our ability to deliver the digital, seamless, and personalized journeys Chinese travelers expect,” said Vincent Coste, Chief Commercial Officer of Riyadh Air.
The collaboration also aims to strengthen airline connectivity between Saudi Arabia and China. Globally, Huawei devices have more than 730 million monthly active users, who will be introduced to the benefits of Riyadh Air’s digital lifestyle ecosystem, Sfeer.
By 2030, Riyadh Air aims to serve 100 destinations worldwide, with its digital strategy playing a key role in achieving this goal.
