News Japan
NAGOYA, JapanSONO Hotels & Resorts Asia has entered the Japanese hospitality market with the opening of SONO Moon Nagoya, the company's first hotel in the country, while appointing hospitality veteran Kazuhiro Noguchi as general manager to lead the property's operations. Announced by SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia, the dual milestone marks the company's operational debut in Japan as it advances its broader expansion strategy across Asia.
The hotel officially opened on June 1, 2026, establishing SONO's first presence in one of Asia's largest hospitality markets. The launch adds Japan to the company's growing regional portfolio, which currently includes operations in Thailand and Indonesia, while supporting a wider development pipeline that targets more than 13 hotels across Asia by 2029.
Located an eight-minute walk from Nagoya Station, SONO Moon Nagoya is positioned between the city's commercial redevelopment district and the historic Yanagibashi Central Market. The location combines convenient access to one of Japan's busiest transportation hubs with proximity to a long-established commercial neighborhood, allowing the property to serve both corporate and leisure demand while introducing guests to Nagoya's urban culture.
The opening also comes ahead of two major international sporting events scheduled to take place in the city later this year. Nagoya will host the 20th Asian Games from September 19 to October 4, followed by the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games from October 18 to 24, creating additional opportunities to accommodate international visitors arriving in the destination.
Supporting the company's market entry is the appointment of Kazuhiro Noguchi as General Manager of SONO Moon Nagoya. According to SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia, Noguchi brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience across Japan and Thailand, with expertise spanning hotel operations, pre-openings, commercial performance, and team development. Throughout his career, he has led both single-property and cluster hotel operations for multiple international hospitality brands.
The company said Noguchi's experience positions him to oversee the successful opening and ongoing operations of SONO Moon Nagoya while contributing to SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia's long-term growth in the Japanese market. His appointment aligns with the company's strategy of combining new market entry with experienced local leadership capable of establishing operational standards and supporting future expansion.
An opening ceremony was held in the hotel's lobby lounge on the morning of June 1. During the event, Ahn Ji Hong, Senior Vice President of SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia, described the opening as a significant milestone for the company and acknowledged the support of partners whose collaboration helped bring the project to completion.
Noguchi also addressed guests during the ceremony, describing SONO Moon Nagoya as more than a place to stay. He said the hotel aims to become a welcoming base for visitors to the city while delivering hospitality that reflects both the warmth of Nagoya and the service standards associated with the SONO brand for domestic and international travelers.
SONO Moon Nagoya has been developed as a lifestyle hotel inspired by the city's culture, food, history, and local stories. Rather than focusing solely on traditional sightseeing, the property is intended to serve travelers seeking to experience Nagoya's contemporary urban environment alongside its established cultural districts.
The hotel offers 130 guestrooms across six accommodation categories, including Standard Single, Superior Double, Superior Triple, Superior Family Triple, Deluxe Twin, and Universal Room configurations. The guestrooms feature artwork inspired by Nagoya and are designed to accommodate a range of travel segments, including business travelers, solo guests, couples, families, and groups.
Public spaces have also been designed to reinforce the hotel's local identity. Its lobby lounge features a prominent "NAGOYA Wall MAP" introducing visitors to the city, while all overnight guests receive a complimentary café-style breakfast. The breakfast service includes bread, soup, and beverages, with takeaway options available for guests wishing to dine in their rooms before departing for business meetings or sightseeing.
The 10-story property also includes a lobby lounge and self-service laundry facilities. Built on a site measuring 303.86 square meters with a total floor area of 2,531.18 square meters, the hotel expands SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia's managed portfolio while strengthening its presence in Northeast Asia.

SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia currently operates 16 hotels in Thailand and Indonesia and plans to continue expanding across key Asian markets, including Japan and Vietnam, as part of its regional development strategy through 2029.
The launch of SONO Moon Nagoya establishes the company's first operating base in Japan, while the appointment of Kazuhiro Noguchi provides local leadership for the property as SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia continues pursuing growth opportunities across the region.
