LEGIAN, BALI, SEPTEMBER 1, 2026 —SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia has expanded its Indonesia portfolio with the launch of SONO Belle Bali Legian, introducing its nature-led lifestyle brand to the Indonesian market for the first time. The 117-room beachfront resort opened on September 1 at the site previously operated as Away Bali Legian Camakila, marking a new phase in the company’s development of its Southeast Asian hotel portfolio.
Located between Legian Beach and the district’s shopping and entertainment strip, the property has been part of Legian’s beachfront hospitality scene since 2019. It joined the SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia portfolio in October last year before being reintroduced under the SONO Belle brand.
The launch forms part of SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia’s strategy of consolidating properties under its owned, purpose-built brand concepts as the company expands its footprint across Southeast Asia. SONO Belle Bali Legian is the brand’s first property in Indonesia, following an existing portfolio of nine SONO Belle properties in South Korea and Vietnam.
Jihong An, Senior Vice President of SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia, said the introduction of SONO Belle is part of the company’s effort to build a stronger and more unified brand portfolio while continuing to develop its presence across its destinations.
For the Indonesia portfolio, the Legian property represents a repositioning of an existing hotel asset under a SONO-owned lifestyle concept. Evan Burns, Area Vice President Indonesia, SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia, said the company selected Legian for the Indonesian debut of SONO Belle, with the resort’s transformation extending across interiors, dining, wellness and guest experiences.
The resort’s repositioning goes beyond a change in branding. SONO Belle Bali Legian has undergone a full reimagining of its dining, wellness and guest experience offering, with the refreshed concept incorporating natural textures and design elements connected to Bali’s coastal setting.
A central addition is Chef’s Table, a new all-day Western dining concept located in a poolside setting. The restaurant is designed around quality ingredients, approachable flavours and presentation, serving as an all-day dining venue for lunch and dinner while reflecting the resort’s lifestyle positioning.
The property’s wellness offering has also been refreshed through a spa experience focused on relaxation and recovery. Treatments range from massages to manicures and pedicures, creating a broader wellness offering within the resort’s overall repositioned product.
Local partnerships are another component of the refreshed operating concept. Sensatia Botanicals has developed a signature SONO Belle scent used across selected guest touchpoints, drawing on locally rooted ingredients. Tanamera Coffee provides complimentary poolside coffee featuring Indonesian specialty beans, establishing a local brand presence within the resort’s pool experience.
The repositioning also includes The Playroom, a redesigned kids’ club featuring a nature-inspired environment for younger guests. The space provides areas for children to play, create, explore and discover while incorporating the updated premium design direction of the resort.
Further additions are scheduled to arrive over the coming months as the transformation continues. The planned developments include an authentic Korean menu created in collaboration with Korean chefs, alongside a modern Indonesian restaurant offering refined Indonesian flavours through a contemporary approach.
The resort is also set to add a rooftop spa, swim-up pool bar, wellness zone and Grab & Go lobby bar. The rooftop spa is planned as an additional setting for treatments and recovery, while the swim-up pool bar will provide drinks, cocktails and light bites directly from the pool.
The planned wellness zone will provide a dedicated area for movement, fitness and wellbeing. Meanwhile, the Grab & Go lobby bar is intended to serve coffee, juices and quick bites for guests on the move.
Digital infrastructure is also part of the expansion, with the planned introduction of the SONO App. The application is designed to provide 24-hour access to hotel information, dining, experiences and guest services through guests’ phones.
The Bali launch comes as SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia manages 17 hotels across Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Vietnam. The company is wholly owned by SONO International, a South Korean hospitality group with more than 14,500 operating rooms across seven countries.
SONO International’s wider operations span South Korea, the United States, France and key Asian markets including Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Vietnam. The group also owns Trinity Airways, forming part of its broader travel and tourism operations.
SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia is also developing its regional pipeline, with more than 13 additional properties planned across Asia by 2029. The company provides hotel development services covering project sourcing, strategic planning, design and construction support, pre-opening activities and long-term hotel operations.
Within this broader expansion, SONO Belle Bali Legian provides the company with its first Indonesian platform for the SONO Belle brand. The property’s phased additions, including new dining concepts, wellness facilities, guest services and digital tools, are scheduled to continue over the coming months as the resort develops under its new brand identity.
