Rosewood Hotels & Resorts announced the development of Rosewood Tokyo, marking the brand’s first urban property in Japan and expanding its presence in the Asia Pacific hospitality market. Announced on May 15, 2026, the project is being developed in partnership with Mori Building Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Realty & Development Co., Ltd. as part of the large-scale Roppongi 5-Chome redevelopment project in Tokyo.
Located in the center of Tokyo’s Roppongi district, the upcoming luxury hotel will be directly connected to Roppongi Subway Station and positioned within a mixed-use development integrating hospitality, residences, retail, and office facilities. The project represents Rosewood’s continued growth strategy in Japan following the opening of Rosewood Miyakojima in 2025.
Rosewood Tokyo will become part of one of the Japanese capital’s major urban redevelopment initiatives. The hotel is planned as a central component of the Roppongi 5-Chome development, which aims to combine multiple functions into a unified destination in one of Tokyo’s most internationally recognized districts.
According to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, the property will feature approximately 200 guestrooms and suites. The accommodation mix will include expansive three-bedroom units designed for extended stays and group travelers. The hotel’s hospitality offering will also include dining venues and bar concepts inspired by Tokyo’s culinary scene.
The development is expected to incorporate several signature Rosewood brand experiences. Guests will have access to the Manor Club and the Asaya wellbeing concept, which will include an indoor swimming pool, fitness facilities, yoga spaces, and wellness-focused amenities. The hotel will also feature event and meeting spaces, including a grand ballroom intended for international gatherings and cultural exchange activities.
Sonia Cheng, Chief Executive Officer of Rosewood Hotel Group, said the Tokyo opening represents a strategic expansion for the brand in Japan. She noted that the project aligns with Rosewood’s “A Sense of Place” philosophy, which focuses on incorporating local culture and identity into hospitality experiences.
The project partners also emphasized the significance of the development within Tokyo’s luxury hospitality and urban landscape. Shingo Tsuji, President and CEO of Mori Building, described Roppongi 5-Chome as a suitable location for Rosewood’s entry into Tokyo and said the development is intended to contribute new value to the city’s luxury market while strengthening Tokyo’s international competitiveness.
Kojun Nishima, President of Sumitomo Realty & Development Co., Ltd., said the partnership aims to create long-term value through the Roppongi 5-Chome Project, which he described as a landmark development representing the future of Tokyo. He added that Rosewood’s hospitality approach is expected to help position the destination on the global stage.
Rosewood Tokyo reflects the company’s broader expansion plans across international luxury hospitality markets. The Tokyo announcement comes as the brand continues to add properties in Asia Pacific and other regions globally. Upcoming developments mentioned by the company include Rosewood Seoul, Rosewood Shenzhen, Rosewood Ranfaru, Rosewood Calistoga, and Rosewood Rome.
The Tokyo project also represents a shift in Rosewood’s positioning in Japan by complementing the resort-focused experience of Rosewood Miyakojima with an urban hospitality offering. While the Miyakojima property focuses on a nature-oriented environment, Rosewood Tokyo is being developed around the concept of contemporary city living rooted in Tokyo’s cultural identity.
Roppongi has long been recognized as one of Tokyo’s major commercial and cultural districts, attracting international businesses, diplomatic communities, hospitality operators, and luxury retail brands. The addition of Rosewood Tokyo is expected to further strengthen the area’s profile as a destination for international travelers and business visitors.
The integration of residences, retail, offices, and hospitality into one connected development reflects a growing trend in urban redevelopment projects across Asia’s major cities. By positioning the hotel within a mixed-use destination connected to public transportation infrastructure, the project aligns with broader efforts to create integrated urban environments catering to both residents and international visitors.
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has continued expanding its footprint across Asia Pacific as demand for luxury hospitality experiences grows in key regional markets. Japan remains one of the region’s most competitive hospitality destinations, with international hotel operators increasingly investing in both resort and urban segments.
The announcement of Rosewood Tokyo comes amid continued interest in high-end hospitality developments in Tokyo, particularly in districts connected to transportation networks and large-scale mixed-use projects. The Roppongi 5-Chome development is positioned to become part of Tokyo’s evolving urban and hospitality landscape through its combination of commercial, residential, and lifestyle components.
With approximately 200 guestrooms, wellness facilities, dining venues, and event spaces, Rosewood Tokyo is planned as a luxury hospitality destination designed to serve both international travelers and domestic guests. Its direct connection to Roppongi Subway Station is also expected to support accessibility within one of Tokyo’s busiest urban districts.
