RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Riyadh Air has launched its inaugural nonstop service between Riyadh and Kuala Lumpur, marking the airline's first destination in Southeast Asia and expanding its international network into one of the region's key aviation and economic markets. The new route commenced operations on July 30, 2026, with flights operating three times weekly between the Saudi Arabian capital and Malaysia's primary international gateway.
The milestone was celebrated through inaugural events in both Riyadh and Kuala Lumpur. Activities began during check-in at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with airline and airport executives before continuing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by senior representatives from Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. Among the officials present were H.E. Osamah Dakhel Al-Ahmadi, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Malaysia; YBhg. Dato' Seri Jana Muniayan, Secretary General of Malaysia's Ministry of Transport; YBhg. Dato' Mohd Ghani, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports; and Vincent Coste, Chief Commercial Officer of Riyadh Air.
The service operates three times a week every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Flight RX 0863 departs Riyadh at 10:50 p.m. and arrives in Kuala Lumpur at 11:50 a.m. the following day, while the return service, Flight RX 0864, departs Kuala Lumpur at 4:45 p.m. and lands in Riyadh at 7:45 p.m.
For Riyadh Air, the Kuala Lumpur launch represents a strategic expansion into Southeast Asia, establishing a direct connection between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia while extending the airline's reach into the broader ASEAN region. The launch also strengthens Kuala Lumpur International Airport's role within the Middle East-Southeast Asia aviation network. Malaysia Airports highlighted the significance of Riyadh Air selecting Kuala Lumpur as its first Southeast Asian destination, reinforcing the airport's connectivity with a region that continues to gain importance for tourism, trade, and investment.
Dato' Mohd Izani Ghani, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, said Riyadh Air's entry makes it the ninth Middle Eastern airline serving Kuala Lumpur International Airport. He noted that the addition strengthens links between Malaysia and the Middle East while expanding travel options for passengers. He also said the new service supports Malaysia Airports' objective of developing Kuala Lumpur International Airport as a gateway connecting Southeast Asia with international markets, while providing a platform for Riyadh Air to expand its regional presence.
The Kuala Lumpur service was launched through collaboration between Riyadh Air and Saudi Arabia's Air Connectivity Program (ACP), an executive enabler supporting the Kingdom's National Tourism and Aviation Strategies. The partnership aligns with Saudi Arabia's broader aviation development plans by improving international connectivity and strengthening links with priority global markets.
The new route supports growing demand across multiple sectors, including business, trade, tourism, education, and religious travel. By connecting Riyadh and Kuala Lumpur with nonstop flights, the service is designed to facilitate movement between two economies while enhancing access to broader regional markets.
From a business perspective, the route expands aviation connectivity between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, providing an additional channel for commercial engagement and cross-border mobility.
