News Philippines
PhilippinesSM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC) has appointed Belgian hospitality executive Sven Toune as the new General Manager of Taal Vista Hotel, reinforcing the company's leadership strategy as it advances business growth across the Philippines' hospitality sector. The appointment places Toune at the helm of one of the country's most established heritage hotels, where he will oversee operations while supporting the property's continued expansion in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) and leisure travel segments.

Toune assumes responsibility for the 262-room hotel overlooking Taal Lake and Volcano during a period of renewed tourism activity and increasing demand for meetings and events in the Philippines. His appointment forms part of SMHCC's broader initiative to strengthen its hospitality portfolio by placing experienced executives in leadership positions capable of driving operational performance, commercial development, and long-term business sustainability.

The leadership transition comes as hotel operators across the country continue responding to recovering tourism demand and evolving traveler expectations. For Taal Vista Hotel, the new appointment supports ongoing efforts to expand guest engagement initiatives while preserving the property's long-standing reputation as one of the Philippines' best-known heritage destinations.

Toune brings more than 20 years of international hospitality experience across luxury resorts and globally recognized hotel brands throughout Southeast Asia. Over the past decade working in the Philippines, he has developed expertise in hotel operations, commercial strategy, and people-centered leadership, positioning him to oversee both day-to-day management and strategic business initiatives at Taal Vista Hotel.

Before joining Taal Vista Hotel, Toune served as General Manager of Park Inn by Radisson Davao. During his tenure, SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. said he strengthened the property's market position, enhanced guest satisfaction, and established stronger partnerships with local communities and industry stakeholders. Those achievements contributed to the company's decision to appoint him to lead one of its flagship heritage properties.

His experience across international hotel operations is expected to support Taal Vista Hotel's continued business development while maintaining the property's established identity within the Philippine hospitality market. The hotel has long been recognized for combining heritage, destination appeal, and Filipino hospitality, serving both leisure travelers and corporate groups visiting Tagaytay.

"I am honored to join Taal Vista Hotel and become part of a team with such a strong reputation for hospitality excellence," Toune said.

"Taal Vista Hotel is a beloved landmark with a rich heritage and a unique place in the hearts of many travelers. I look forward to working closely with our talented team to build on the hotel's success, elevate the guest experience, and create meaningful opportunities for innovation, professional development, and sustainable growth," he added.

For SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., the leadership appointment aligns with broader corporate objectives to strengthen competitive positioning across its portfolio while expanding opportunities within key hospitality segments. The company identified Taal Vista Hotel's continued presence in both the MICE and leisure markets as an important part of its long-term business strategy.

SMHCC Executive Vice President Peggy Angeles said Toune's appointment represents a significant milestone for the hotel's continued development.

"Sven's appointment marks an important step in strengthening Taal Vista Hotel's position as a premier heritage destination. His expertise and strategic vision will be instrumental in accelerating growth across the MICE and leisure travel segments, forging meaningful partnerships, and elevating the exceptional guest experiences that define our brand," Angeles said.

The appointment also reflects SMHCC's continued investment in executive leadership as hospitality businesses increasingly focus on balancing operational excellence with commercial growth. Industry recovery has prompted hotel companies to prioritize experienced management teams capable of strengthening market positioning while adapting to changing customer expectations and evolving business requirements.

As the hospitality division of SM Prime Holdings Inc., SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. currently operates 10 hotel properties comprising more than 2,600 rooms alongside over 42,000 square meters of convention space. Its portfolio includes Conrad Manila, Radisson Blu Cebu, multiple Park Inn by Radisson properties, and the SMX Convention Centers, giving the company a broad presence across accommodation and meetings infrastructure in the Philippines.

Within that portfolio, Taal Vista Hotel occupies a distinctive position as one of the country's heritage hospitality assets. Located along Kilometer 60 of Aguinaldo Highway in Tagaytay City, the property has built its reputation through its scenic location overlooking Taal Lake and Volcano, traditional Filipino hospitality, and long-standing role as both a tourism landmark and business destination.

Under Toune's leadership, the hotel will continue emphasizing operational excellence, guest satisfaction, innovation, and sustainable growth while responding to changing market conditions. The company expects his experience in commercial strategy and hotel operations to support business expansion initiatives and reinforce Taal Vista Hotel's position within the Philippine hospitality industry.

The leadership transition also supports SMHCC's objective of preparing its hospitality portfolio for future growth by combining experienced management with established hotel brands. As demand for business events, meetings, and leisure travel continues to evolve, the company is positioning Taal Vista Hotel to strengthen relationships with industry partners while maintaining service standards associated with the property.

Beyond commercial objectives, the appointment reinforces the hotel's commitment to professional development and organizational capability. Toune highlighted opportunities for innovation and talent development as part of his leadership priorities, reflecting the company's continued focus on strengthening internal capabilities alongside business performance.

Taal Vista Hotel remains an integral component of SM Hotels and Conventions Corp.'s hospitality portfolio, representing the combination of heritage, destination appeal, and service excellence that has defined the property over decades. With new executive leadership in place, the hotel continues pursuing operational performance, business partnerships, and growth opportunities across the MICE and leisure travel sectors while preserving its role as one of the Philippines' enduring hospitality landmarks.
