Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun Expands Accor’s Seoul Portfolio

News South Korea
August, 2026 – Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun has opened in Seoul, adding 336 rooms to Mercure Hotels & Resorts’ network and expanding Accor’s hospitality presence in one of the South Korean capital’s established commercial, cultural and tourism districts.

Located in Dongdaemun, the new property is positioned near Dongdaemun Design Plaza and Cheonggyecheon Stream, with access to the district’s fashion, design, dining and cultural attractions. The location places the hotel within an area known for shopping, cultural activity and tourism, while providing access to Seoul’s urban environment for both business and leisure travellers.

The opening forms part of Mercure’s broader international network, which has grown to more than 1,000 hotels across more than 65 countries. Founded in 1973, the brand operates as part of Accor, a global hospitality group with more than 5,800 properties across more than 110 countries.

For Accor, the Seoul opening adds a 336-room property to its portfolio through a midscale brand built around local identity and destination-specific experiences. Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun combines accommodation, dining, meetings and business facilities within a single property serving guests visiting the Dongdaemun area.

The hotel’s positioning draws on the character of its surrounding district, combining elements associated with Dongdaemun’s heritage, creativity and contemporary urban culture. Its interiors provide a modern interpretation of the neighbourhood, with the property designed around locally connected spaces alongside practical facilities for guest stays.

The 336 rooms are designed around contemporary comfort and functionality, with warm interiors and practical amenities. The accommodation offering is intended to support both business and leisure stays, giving the property a room inventory suited to travellers visiting Seoul for different purposes.

Dining facilities provide additional services for guests and meetings. LAMER operates as an all-day dining restaurant with live cooking stations and Korean and international cuisine. Café M offers a more informal setting for light refreshments and meetings throughout the day, adding a space that can accommodate casual business interactions within the hotel.

Beyond accommodation and food and beverage operations, Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun includes a modern fitness centre, three meeting rooms and a business corner. These facilities provide spaces for working, meetings, connectivity and fitness, extending the property’s offering beyond overnight accommodation.

The meeting facilities are particularly relevant to the hotel’s positioning for business travellers, with three meeting rooms available within the property. The business corner also provides an additional working environment for guests, while the hotel’s central location provides access to Dongdaemun’s surrounding commercial and cultural areas.

Garth Simmons, Chief Operating Officer, Premium, Midscale & Economy Division, Asia, Accor, said Mercure hotels are designed to help guests discover destinations through a local perspective. He highlighted Seoul’s continuing appeal to travellers and the opening of Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun as an expansion of the brand’s network in the city.

The property is led by Jay Seong, General Manager, Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun. Seong said the hotel reflects the energy and creativity associated with Dongdaemun through its interiors, culinary experiences and facilities, with the property designed to provide access to Seoul alongside accommodation and guest services.

The hotel’s opening also extends Mercure’s approach to developing properties around their surrounding destinations. Since its establishment in 1973, the brand has focused on hotels connected to their neighbourhoods through design, gastronomy and cultural experiences. Its portfolio spans city centres, coastal locations, countryside destinations and mountain areas across more than 65 countries.

Mercure describes its positioning as “glocal,” combining global scale with local relevance. Its Local Shared with Care approach focuses on sharing local experiences while supporting communities, protecting cultural heritage and sourcing responsibly. The brand’s hotels are shaped by their individual surroundings while operating within the wider Mercure network.

Within Accor’s broader portfolio, Mercure is positioned as the group’s midscale brand and is part of ALL Accor, the group’s booking platform and loyalty programme. The new Seoul property therefore joins an established international hospitality network while maintaining a location-specific identity tied to Dongdaemun.

For hospitality operations, the new hotel brings accommodation, food and beverage, meeting facilities, fitness services and business amenities together within a single 336-room property. Its location near major cultural and commercial attractions provides the operating base for serving travellers staying in Dongdaemun and accessing Seoul’s wider urban environment.

Mercure Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun’s opening adds another property to Mercure’s international footprint while expanding its presence in Seoul through a hotel built around Dongdaemun’s local character. The property combines 336 rooms with dining, meetings, business and fitness facilities within the city district.
