HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam — Meliá Hotels International has expanded its long-term growth strategy in Vietnam with the signing of Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne, Member of Meliá Collection, introducing the first Meliá Collection property in the country. The project marks the arrival of the company's fifth hotel brand in Vietnam while reinforcing its presence in one of the Asia-Pacific region's key hospitality markets. The signing also establishes a new partnership with Nam Chau Tourism JSC, the owner of the future resort, supporting Meliá's continued expansion through collaboration with local developers.
The addition of Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne comes as Meliá Hotels International continues to build its portfolio across Vietnam. The company currently operates 22 hotels nationwide and has six additional projects under development. With the introduction of Meliá Collection, the operator expands its brand presence in the country while strengthening a market that has become one of its most significant footholds in the Asia-Pacific region.
Scheduled to open in 2029, Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne, Member of Meliá Collection will be developed as a newly built five-star beachfront resort. The property will comprise 187 accommodations, including 156 guestrooms and 31 villas, creating a premium hospitality offering designed around the destination's coastal setting. The project represents an expansion of Meliá's luxury portfolio while broadening its brand segmentation within Vietnam.
The development has been planned with an architectural concept that emphasizes integration with its natural surroundings. The resort's design will follow local wind patterns and the movement of the sun, incorporating sea-facing curved structures intended to reflect the rhythm of the coastline. Terracotta façades inspired by the surrounding sand dunes will further connect the resort to the landscape, while natural ventilation, shaded outdoor areas, and sustainable materials have been incorporated throughout the property.
The resort has also been designed to support a lifestyle-oriented hospitality experience. Open spaces and design elements have been planned to create a setting that combines luxury accommodation with a focus on wellbeing and the surrounding environment. Villas will feature textures and materials intended to reflect the character of the original landscape while maintaining a contemporary five-star positioning.
Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne will include a range of facilities intended to support both leisure and business operations. The property will feature multiple dining concepts, a spa, a fitness centre, meeting facilities, a kids club, and an outdoor swimming pool overlooking the coastline. The inclusion of versatile meeting spaces expands the resort's operational capability by accommodating corporate meetings and group events alongside leisure travel demand.
For Meliá Hotels International, the project also introduces the Meliá Collection brand into Vietnam for the first time. The collection is positioned around hotels distinguished by their individual identity, heritage, and connection to local culture. Rather than following a standardised model, each property within the collection is selected for its sense of place and its ability to offer experiences closely linked to its destination.
Mui Ne has been selected as the location for the brand's Vietnam debut because of its coastal setting and growing accessibility. Located along one of the destination's beachfront areas, the future resort will be surrounded by sand dunes, palm trees, and the South China Sea. The destination has evolved from a traditional fishing village into one of Vietnam's recognised coastal tourism markets, attracting visitors through its beaches, Red Sand Dunes, and local fishing community.
Accessibility has become another factor supporting the destination's hospitality development. Mui Ne is connected to Ho Chi Minh City through the Long Thanh–Dau Giay–Phan Thiet Expressway, reducing travel time to approximately three hours by road. The future Phan Thiet Airport is expected to further improve access for domestic and international travellers, providing additional infrastructure to support tourism growth in the region.
The signing also reflects Meliá Hotels International's strategy of expanding through partnerships with local businesses. Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne will be owned by Nam Chau Tourism JSC, creating the company's first collaboration with the international hotel operator. The partnership represents a new stage in Meliá's expansion strategy in Vietnam, where local ownership and international brand management continue to play an important role in hotel development.
To formalise the partnership, executives from both companies gathered in Ho Chi Minh City for the official signing ceremony, marking the beginning of the collaboration on the Mui Ne project. The agreement establishes a shared commitment to developing the new beachfront resort while supporting long-term tourism development in the destination.
The latest signing also expands Meliá Hotels International's portfolio to five brands operating in Vietnam. Together with its existing operating hotels and projects under development, the company continues to increase its presence across multiple hospitality segments while broadening its geographic footprint in the country.
The introduction of the Meliá Collection brand represents another stage in Meliá Hotels International's expansion strategy in Vietnam, where the company continues to develop its portfolio through new destinations, differentiated hospitality concepts, and partnerships with local developers. The addition of Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne further strengthens its development pipeline ahead of the resort's planned opening in 2029 while expanding the company's presence within Vietnam's premium hospitality market.
