Megaworld Targets 12,000 Hotel Rooms Across Philippines

News Philippines
August 26, 2028 — Megaworld is accelerating the expansion of its hospitality business in the Philippines, targeting nearly 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032 through new developments in key tourism destinations and continued growth across established business and tourism hubs.

The property developer plans to expand its portfolio across destinations including Palawan and Ilocos Norte over the next five to seven years. The development pipeline will include both Megaworld’s homegrown hotel brands and internationally branded hotels, adding to its existing portfolio across the country.

The expansion is accompanied by a restructuring of Megaworld’s hospitality operations through the establishment of Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR). The new organization brings the company’s growing hotel portfolio under two focused groups: Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR) and Megaworld Global Hospitality (MGH).

MHR will manage Megaworld’s hotel developments in Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas, and Cebu. MGH will oversee Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, identified as Megaworld’s biggest hotel property, as well as new hotel properties planned for Palawan and three hotels in Iloilo: Courtyard by Marriott, Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, and Belmont Hotel Iloilo.

The organizational structure is intended to support the next phase of Megaworld’s hospitality business as the company prepares for a larger and more global hotel operation. The two groups will operate with distinct portfolios covering Megaworld’s homegrown properties, existing developments, and properties associated with international hotel brands.

Megaworld President and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso said the company’s hospitality expansion is connected to its objective of supporting tourism development in the Philippines, particularly by making destinations more attractive to foreign visitors. The company is expanding its hospitality organization with executives described as having experience across the global hotels and leisure industry.

Kevin L. Tan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI), Megaworld’s parent company, also linked the hospitality expansion to tourism and economic activity. He said hotels built by the company create jobs, support local businesses, bring visitors to destinations, and provide opportunities for communities.

The management structure for MGHR is led by two hospitality executives. Socrates Alvaro has been appointed Managing Director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, while Anna Vergara will serve as Managing Director of Megaworld Global Hospitality.

Alvaro brings nearly two decades of hotel operations and leadership experience through senior roles within Megaworld Hotels & Resorts. His professional experience covers hospitality markets including the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, the Maldives, Thailand, and other destinations across Asia.

Vergara brings more than 32 years of experience with Marriott International. Her background includes hotel operations, leadership, and the development of high-performing teams.

Their appointments establish separate leadership for the two hospitality groups as Megaworld organizes its hotel portfolio around its domestic hotel operations and properties managed under the global hospitality division.

The expansion comes as hospitality has become Megaworld’s fastest-growing recurring income segment during the first half of 2026. The company’s hospitality business recorded an 11% increase in revenues to P3.1 billion during the period.

The revenue growth was supported by the opening of Belmont Hotel Iloilo, a 405-room property located within Megaworld’s 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park. The hotel is the company’s third property within the business park and is now the largest hotel in Iloilo City in terms of room inventory.

With the addition of Belmont Hotel Iloilo, Megaworld’s total hotel portfolio in Iloilo City has reached nearly 1,000 rooms. The property is also part of the company’s wider portfolio that is being organized under Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts.

The planned expansion will extend the portfolio beyond existing markets. Palawan and Ilocos Norte are identified as key destinations for upcoming hotel developments, while Megaworld will continue expanding in major tourism and business hubs across the Philippines. The company expects the new properties to form part of its broader target of nearly 12,000 rooms by 2032.

The portfolio will combine Megaworld’s own hotel brands with internationally branded properties. Within the current structure, MGH will handle Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, the planned Palawan developments, and the three Iloilo hotels, while MHR will manage developments in Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas, and Cebu.

Megaworld’s hospitality expansion therefore involves both additional hotel capacity and an organizational realignment of its existing business. The establishment of MGHR creates a structure under which the company’s hotel developments are divided between Megaworld Hotels & Resorts and Megaworld Global Hospitality, with each group responsible for defined properties and markets.

The company’s planned developments are set against the performance of its hospitality business during the first half of 2026, when the segment generated P3.1 billion in revenue following an 11% increase. The opening of the 405-room Belmont Hotel Iloilo also expanded Megaworld’s room inventory in one of its established business park developments.

Over the next five to seven years, the company plans to continue adding properties in tourism destinations such as Palawan and Ilocos Norte while developing its presence in other major tourism and business hubs. The expansion is expected to bring Megaworld’s hotel portfolio to nearly 12,000 rooms by 2032.
