Hyatt Expands Thailand Presence with BARAI Hua Hin

News Thailand
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has expanded its presence in Thailand with the opening of THE BARAI HUA HIN, marking the debut of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand in the country. Announced by Hyatt Hotels Corporation, the new property is located along Hua Hin’s historic Khao Takiap coastline and introduces a wellness-focused resort concept under one of Hyatt’s independent luxury collections.
The opening represents a strategic addition to Hyatt’s portfolio in Thailand while also extending the global footprint of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, a brand known for incorporating distinctive properties with strong local identities. Situated in Hua Hin, one of Thailand’s best-known seaside destinations, the resort combines wellness programming, heritage-inspired design, beachfront accommodations, and dining concepts rooted in the destination’s history.
THE BARAI HUA HIN features 98 guest rooms and suites, including 27 suites and two two-bedroom penthouses. The resort’s launch follows the transformation of THE BARAI, which originally opened as a standalone spa two decades ago and became known for integrating Thai healing traditions with modern wellness practices.
The expansion from a wellness spa into a full-service boutique resort creates a broader hospitality offering for Hyatt while preserving the property’s wellness identity. The move also brings The Unbound Collection by Hyatt into Thailand for the first time, adding a new destination to the brand’s growing international network.
The property is located on the Khao Takiap coastline in Hua Hin, a destination with historical significance as a retreat favored by Thai royalty for generations. According to Hyatt, the location’s long-standing reputation as a place of relaxation and restoration influenced the development of the resort’s wellness positioning.
Marco Avitabile, General Manager of THE BARAI HUA HIN, said the property’s philosophy is centered on “Sanook,” a Thai concept associated with joy and enjoyment in everyday life. The resort has been designed to allow guests to engage with wellness, leisure, culinary experiences, and recreation according to their individual preferences.
Beyond the resort grounds, visitors have access to nearby attractions including Kui Buri National Park, Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, and Phraya Nakhon Cave, supporting the destination’s appeal as a nature and wellness-oriented travel market.
Architecture plays a central role in the property’s identity. Designed by architect Lek Mathar Bunnag, THE BARAI HUA HIN draws inspiration from the natural elements of water, fire, earth, and air. The design incorporates courtyards, water features, shaded passageways, and sculptural forms intended to create a tranquil environment.
The resort includes two swimming pools designed around this concept. The Forest Pool serves as a shaded lagoon-style setting within the resort, while the Beach Pool offers direct views across the Gulf of Thailand. Together, these facilities contribute to the resort’s positioning within the wellness and luxury hospitality segment.
Accommodation has been designed to maximize engagement with the surrounding tropical landscape. Rooms and suites feature open-plan layouts, private balconies, soaking tubs, and rainforest showers. Higher-category accommodations include butler service, larger outdoor spaces, in-suite wellness rituals, and daily massage offerings.
A key component of the development is THE BARAI Spa, which remains at the center of the property’s wellness strategy. The spa takes its name from ancient “barays,” reservoirs that historically supported communities in ancient kingdoms. Hyatt describes the spa environment as a combination of pools, courtyards, stone pathways, and reflective spaces intended to support relaxation and sensory experiences.
The wellness proposition extends beyond the spa through the introduction of a two-story Wellness Hub. The facility includes a 24-hour fitness studio, yoga studio, holistic wellness zone, and wellness retail space. Programs are organized around the resort’s elemental philosophy, encouraging guests to explore themes associated with grounding, vitality, release, and momentum.
Specialized wellness pathways have also been incorporated into the offering. These programs focus on areas such as women’s health, sleep recovery, back care, longevity, emotional wellbeing, and heart health. Each pathway includes a personalized wellness map designed to guide participants throughout their stay.
The Wellness Hub is led by integrated wellness practitioner CM.D. Chuthamat Srinoi, also known as Dr. Cash. Her approach combines traditional Chinese medicine, sound vibration practices, energy healing techniques, and mindful art-based therapies as part of the broader wellness experience.
Food and beverage operations form another significant component of the resort’s business model. Culinary offerings are led by Chef Benn Rowe, whose professional experience spans restaurants and hospitality operations in both Australia and Thailand.
The property features two dining venues that draw inspiration from Hua Hin’s heritage. White Cottage references the seaside residences once used by Siamese nobility and incorporates preserved timber from Ban Chom Khluen, a historic structure whose name translates as “Seeing the Wave.” The venue serves breakfast and later transitions into a restaurant focused on seafood, plant-based dishes, and Thai-inspired flavors.
A second dining venue, McFarland House, occupies a restored nineteenth-century beachfront pavilion overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The building was once the seaside residence of Dr. George Bradley McFarland, a figure associated with Thailand’s medical and educational development. Today, the venue serves Modern European cuisine, grilled specialties, afternoon tea, and a Sunday brunch program.
For Hyatt, the opening of THE BARAI HUA HIN strengthens The Unbound Collection by Hyatt portfolio by introducing a property that combines architecture, wellness, local heritage, and destination-driven experiences. The launch also supports the company’s broader expansion strategy across international leisure and lifestyle markets.
Hyatt noted that the opening of THE BARAI HUA HIN adds a new wellness-focused narrative to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. The property joins a portfolio of independent hotels positioned around individuality and strong connections to their local environments.
The company also indicated that the brand’s global expansion is expected to continue during the year with the planned additions of Cayo Levantado in the Dominican Republic and The Clayfield in Canada.
Alongside the opening, Hyatt is introducing a World of Hyatt member promotion for the property. Members staying at THE BARAI HUA HIN between June 18 and September 30, 2026, will be eligible to earn an additional 500 bonus points per qualifying night under the program’s new hotel offer initiative.
Headquartered in Chicago, Hyatt Hotels Corporation reported that its global portfolio included more than 1,500 hotels and all-inclusive properties across 83 countries as of March 31, 2026. The opening of THE BARAI HUA HIN adds another strategic asset to that network while establishing The Unbound Collection by Hyatt’s presence in Thailand for the first time.
