Hilton Extends AI Technology Across Search-to-Stay Journey

News Revenue
Hilton is expanding its technology platform across the travel journey, introducing new AI-powered capabilities that connect hotel discovery, trip planning, booking and in-stay services. The hospitality company is extending its digital ecosystem through Hilton.com, the Hilton Honors App, Google Search’s AI Mode, ChatGPT and a planned Claude Connector.

The expansion comes as travel planning becomes increasingly conversational, with travelers using AI assistants and natural-language searches to explore destinations and hotel options. Hilton’s latest technology developments are designed to connect these emerging discovery channels with its own booking and guest-service platforms, creating a technology pathway that extends from initial search through the hotel stay.

At the center of the expansion is the Hilton AI Planner, a generative AI-powered digital concierge recently launched on Hilton.com for desktop and rolling out through the Hilton Honors App. The tool allows travelers to interact through conversational prompts while exploring destinations, comparing properties and shaping stays around their preferences.

For Hilton, the AI Planner forms part of a broader technology ecosystem rather than operating as an isolated planning tool. Its integration into Hilton.com and the Hilton Honors App places AI-powered discovery within platforms already connected to Hilton’s direct digital journey, allowing users to move between trip planning and the company’s hotel booking environment.

Hilton is also extending its presence into external search environments. In the coming weeks, travelers will be able to discover Hilton properties through AI Mode in Google Search, where hotel options can be explored and compared within a conversational planning experience.

The integration also introduces the ability to incorporate Hilton Honors Points into hotel searches through natural-language prompts. Travelers can ask for hotels in specific destinations and dates that can be booked using their Hilton Honors Points. Once they select a hotel and are ready to complete the reservation, they will be redirected to Hilton.com to redeem their points and finalize the booking.

This creates a connection between external AI-assisted search and Hilton’s direct booking platform. Instead of keeping hotel discovery and reservation activity within separate stages, the technology links conversational search with Hilton’s existing digital booking environment.

The company is similarly extending its technology presence into ChatGPT. Through Hilton’s plugin, users can access Hilton property information directly within conversations, ask Hilton-specific questions, explore hotel recommendations and learn more about properties before continuing to Hilton.com to make a reservation.

Hilton is also developing a Claude Connector as another extension of its digital information infrastructure. The planned connector will bring property images, details and pricing into Claude, providing additional hotel information within the AI assistant as travelers evaluate where to stay.

These developments expand the number of digital environments through which Hilton properties can be discovered while maintaining Hilton.com as the destination for completing direct reservations. Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Claude are positioned as additional points within the planning journey, while Hilton’s own platforms remain connected to booking and guest-facing services.

The technology expansion continues beyond the reservation stage through the Hilton Honors App. After booking, guests can use the application to check in, select their room and access Digital Key at participating properties. The app also supports in-hotel communication, keeping messaging with hotel support within the same digital environment.

Hilton’s Connected Room technology extends the digital experience into the guestroom. At participating properties, the technology allows guests to personalize aspects of their in-room experience and control room technology through their mobile phones.

The combination of AI-enabled discovery, direct digital booking and mobile-enabled hotel services gives Hilton a technology framework covering multiple stages of the hospitality journey. The company is connecting tools used before a stay with technologies supporting guests after they arrive at a property.

Michael Leidinger, senior vice president and chief information officer at Hilton, said the company is focused on innovation in response to changing needs among guests, the hospitality industry and the broader environment in which it operates. He also described Hilton’s technology development as focused on creating more seamless journeys and anticipating what comes next in the guest experience.

For hospitality technology development, Hilton’s latest initiatives span both customer-facing digital channels and operational touchpoints within the stay. The Hilton AI Planner addresses destination and property discovery, Google AI Mode connects conversational search with hotel selection and Hilton Honors Points, while ChatGPT and the planned Claude Connector extend property information into third-party AI environments.

Once travelers move into the booking and stay phases, Hilton.com, the Hilton Honors App, Digital Key, in-app messaging and Connected Room technology provide the next layer of the digital journey. The different capabilities therefore operate across discovery, comparison, reservation, arrival, communication and in-room interaction.

Hilton’s technology platform is consequently being extended across a wider set of digital environments, with AI assistants and search platforms becoming additional access points to Hilton’s properties and booking ecosystem. The company is developing these connections while continuing to link external discovery tools with its own digital platforms and guest-facing hotel technologies.
