Hilton Expands Northern Thailand With Kahavadi Chiang Rai Debut

News Thailand
CHIANG RAI, Thailand — According to a press release issued by Hilton, the company has opened Kahavadi Chiang Rai, Curio Collection by Hilton, marking the Curio Collection brand's first property in Northern Thailand. The opening expands Hilton's presence in one of Thailand's culturally significant destinations while supporting the company's broader strategy to grow its portfolio in high-potential markets across Southeast Asia.

Situated along the Mae Kok River, the 167-room hotel joins Curio Collection by Hilton, the company's global collection of independently characterized hotels that combine local identity with Hilton's international hospitality standards and loyalty ecosystem. The property is located approximately 10 minutes from Chiang Rai's city center, providing access to major attractions including Wat Rong Suea Ten, commonly known as the Blue Temple, and Wat Rong Khun, or the White Temple. It also serves as a gateway to destinations such as Doi Mae Salong, Phu Chi Fa, the Golden Triangle and Doi Tung.

The opening represents another step in Hilton's expansion strategy in Thailand, following the recent launch of KROMO Bangkok, Curio Collection by Hilton. By introducing the Curio Collection brand to Northern Thailand, Hilton continues broadening its presence beyond established gateway destinations while strengthening its portfolio of locally inspired hotels.

Kahavadi Chiang Rai was developed around the heritage of Northern Thai merchant houses that historically lined the region's river trade routes. The property's architecture reinterprets traditional Lanna merchant residences through contemporary design, incorporating soft white tones, arched structures, timber shutters, rattan furnishings and classic moldings. Modern craftsmanship is integrated through hand-carved wood details, woven materials and natural stone finishes, creating an environment that reflects Chiang Rai's trading history.

Local artistic identity also plays a role throughout the hotel. Works created by artists based in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai are displayed across the property, while ceramics produced by Huenpatima Ceramics in Phayao are incorporated into guest experiences and public spaces, reinforcing the hotel's connection to Northern Thailand's creative community.

The hotel offers seven accommodation categories across its 167 guestrooms and suites. The inventory is primarily composed of 144 Deluxe rooms and suites, including 110 standard Deluxe rooms, 24 Deluxe rooms with Garden Terrace, eight Deluxe Pool Access rooms and two Deluxe Accessible rooms.

For guests requiring additional space, the property also features 22 One Bedroom Suites with separate living and sleeping areas. A total of 26 guestrooms are configured as connecting rooms to accommodate larger travel groups and multi-generational stays. The hotel's highest accommodation category is the 225-square-meter Two Bedroom Kahavadi Family Suite.

All guestrooms overlook landscaped gardens, swimming pools or partial views of the Mae Kok River. Guest amenities incorporate locally inspired elements, including a specially blended tea sourced from Wa Wee Hill and served using locally crafted ceramics.

Food and beverage operations are positioned around the area's culinary traditions and historical trade influences. The all-day dining restaurant, Larderley, draws inspiration from Thailand's pinto-style shared dining culture while serving Thai, Asian and international cuisine.

Tasabiang, the riverside signature restaurant, specializes in Northern Thai cuisine prepared using locally sourced ingredients, seasonal produce and traditional regional recipes. Meanwhile, The Ledger lounge and bar references the merchant bookkeeping traditions that shaped the region's commercial history, presenting cocktails, beverages and small plates influenced by historical trading routes and the movement of ingredients across Northern Thailand.

Beyond accommodation and dining, Kahavadi Chiang Rai introduces wellness facilities centered on local healing traditions. Guests have access to outdoor swimming pools, a 24-hour fitness center and the eForea spa.

Among the featured wellness experiences is Tok Sen, a traditional Northern Thai therapeutic technique that uses rhythmic wooden tapping to relieve muscular tension while encouraging circulation. The spa integrates this regional practice into its treatment offerings as part of the hotel's locally rooted wellness positioning.

The property also incorporates destination-based activities intended to connect visitors with Chiang Rai's culture and surrounding communities. Guided bicycle excursions take guests to nearby temples, where they can participate in traditional alms-giving experiences while learning about local customs.

Its culinary programming extends beyond restaurant service through Lanna cooking classes that begin with guided visits to the hotel's garden and nearby local markets before continuing with hands-on preparation using seasonal herbs and regional ingredients. The market-to-table format is designed to showcase Northern Thailand's agricultural products and culinary traditions.

In addition to leisure offerings, Kahavadi Chiang Rai has been positioned to support the meetings and events segment. The hotel provides 1,980 square meters of event space distributed across six venues, including a 1,762-square-meter riverside lawn and ballroom alongside several flexible meeting rooms designed for smaller corporate gatherings.

The event facilities combine natural daylight with contemporary Thai design elements and dedicated event support, enabling the property to accommodate conferences, corporate meetings, celebrations and destination events.

From a business development perspective, the opening strengthens Hilton's regional network by extending its branded footprint into Northern Thailand while expanding Curio Collection by Hilton's presence within the country. The addition also increases Hilton's ability to serve travelers seeking destination-specific experiences supported by the company's global reservation system, loyalty platform and operational standards.

Kahavadi Chiang Rai also participates in Hilton Honors, Hilton's guest loyalty program covering its portfolio of 27 brands. Members booking directly through Hilton channels receive benefits including flexible payment options using a combination of points and cash, member-exclusive discounts, complimentary standard Wi-Fi and access to digital services through the Hilton Honors mobile application, including digital check-in, room selection and Digital Key functionality.

To mark the hotel's opening, Hilton Honors members staying between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2026, will receive 1,000 bonus points per night. Nightly room rates begin at THB 4,400 for room-only accommodation, with flexible booking options that allow free changes or cancellations up to 24 hours before arrival.

Located at 6 Moo 4, Tambon Rimkok, Muang Chiang Rai, Kahavadi Chiang Rai becomes the latest addition to Hilton's expanding Thailand portfolio as the company continues targeting growth opportunities across Southeast Asia through destination-focused hospitality developments.
