Four Seasons Resort Langkawi has appointed Tobias Emmer as General Manager, placing a hospitality executive with more than two decades of international experience in charge of the resort’s overall operations.
Emmer’s appointment brings experience across Europe and Asia to the senior leadership role. His career has included hotel positions in Munich, London and Shanghai, as well as roles with Four Seasons properties in the Maldives, Thailand and Singapore. He joined Four Seasons Resort Langkawi in 2024 as Resort Manager, where he was responsible for resort operations and guest experience.
As General Manager, Emmer will oversee the resort’s overall operations, with responsibilities covering guest experience, team development and the property’s connection with the local destination. His remit also comes as the resort plans Malaysian-inspired seasonal programming and the introduction of five renovated beach villas.
The appointment adds to a career that has combined hotel management, resort operations and pre-opening experience. Emmer began his hospitality career in Germany, completing an apprenticeship at a hotel in Munich before earning a bachelor’s degree in tourism. He later worked in London and moved to Shanghai in 2012 to join the pre-opening team of a luxury hotel.
His international experience continued with Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, where he joined in 2015 as Front Office Manager. His tenure with Four Seasons has included progression to Director of Rooms, followed by a Resort Manager position at Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai, Thailand, beginning in 2018. He subsequently moved to Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, where he served as Hotel Manager for two and a half years.
Emmer’s experience also includes roles with Mandarin Oriental properties in Shanghai, London and Munich. His employment history covers Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai; Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel, London; and Mandarin Oriental, Munich. His education includes a Diploma in Catering from the Professional School for Hotel and Catering Business in Munich and a bachelor’s degree in Tourism from the University of Darmstadt.
Before taking the General Manager position, Emmer’s role at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi gave him direct experience with the property’s operational environment. His responsibilities as Resort Manager included resort operations and guest experience, while his new position expands his oversight to the resort’s overall operations.
The leadership transition also aligns with the property’s stated plans for its guest offering. Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is planning Malaysian-inspired seasonal programming and the introduction of five renovated beach villas. Emmer will continue to focus on incorporating local elements into the guest experience as part of his responsibilities at the resort.
For the resort’s management structure, Emmer brings experience developed across city hotels, island resorts, remote destination properties and pre-opening projects. His Four Seasons assignments have included the Maldives, Thailand, Singapore and Langkawi, while his broader career has covered Germany, the United Kingdom and China.
Team development is another area identified within his General Manager responsibilities. Emmer has described mentorship as part of his leadership approach, with an emphasis on supporting team members in developing their potential. His professional background includes leadership roles at both resort and hotel level, providing experience across day-to-day operations and hotel management.
His career began with practical hospitality work during his teenage years, followed by an apprenticeship at a luxury hotel in Munich. After completing his tourism degree, he continued working in London with the same hotel group before moving to Shanghai for a five-star hotel opening project. The pre-opening assignment became an early international step in a career that later included multiple Four Seasons destinations.
At Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, Emmer’s responsibilities connect operational leadership with the property’s destination positioning. The resort’s plans include seasonal programming inspired by Malaysia, alongside five renovated beach villas. His remit also includes maintaining the property’s connection with the local destination while overseeing guest experience and team development.
Emmer speaks German and English and was born in Munich, Germany. He has been with Four Seasons since 2015, beginning his tenure at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa. His subsequent assignments across Thailand, Singapore and Langkawi have added resort and hotel management experience to his international hospitality career.
In discussing his new role, Emmer described the resort’s setting as central to how the property approaches guest experience. He identified the rainforests, coastline, geology and culture surrounding the resort as elements to be reflected through the guest experience. He also highlighted the resort’s mile-long beach and opportunities to experience the Andaman Sea from its shoreline.
His stated approach includes balancing luxury, authenticity and connection while preserving the distinctive feeling of the destination. At Langkawi, this approach sits alongside his operational responsibilities and the resort’s planned programming and villa renovations. His remit covers the property as a whole, while his previous Resort Manager position provided continuity in the resort’s operations and guest experience functions.
The General Manager appointment places an executive with experience spanning operations, guest experience, team leadership and pre-opening projects at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. The role encompasses the resort’s overall operations while continuing work on local programming and five renovated beach villas.
