SAYAN, BALI, INDONESIA – Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan has unveiled seven newly reimagined suites as part of its sustainability-led refresh, introducing five Premier Duplex Suites and two Premier Family Suites to its riverside accommodation offering.
The resort’s latest refurbishment builds on its existing architectural relationship with the Ayung River valley, combining contemporary design with Balinese craftsmanship across the newly transformed suites. The project was created in partnership with Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), with the interiors developed to preserve Sayan’s architectural legacy while updating the accommodation experience.
The seven suites represent the first completed phase of the resort’s transformed riverside accommodations following the earlier announcement of its sustainability-led refresh. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide views across the Ayung River valley, while natural materials, hand-loomed textiles and locally crafted details are incorporated throughout the interiors.
The design retains connections to Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan’s distinctive architecture, including its suspended rice-bowl structure and integration with the surrounding landscape. The new interiors use pale, earthy tones inspired by Ubud’s rice terraces, complemented by dark stained teak. Integrated smart-living technology, including LUTRON lighting, has also been incorporated into the suites without becoming a prominent visual feature.
For the resort’s accommodation portfolio, the Premier Duplex Suite introduces an 85-square-metre, two-storey layout overlooking the Ayung River. The suite includes a dining and living area with floor-to-ceiling river views, a bedroom finished with teak and hand-loomed fabrics, and a private sun terrace.
The configuration places the living and dining spaces on one level and the bedroom on another, creating distinct areas within the suite. Woven textures and timber elements are used throughout the interiors, alongside views of the surrounding river valley.
The Premier Family Suite takes a different approach to accommodation design, with a dedicated children’s room incorporated into the layout. Located in the resort’s main building near its restaurants and Sacred River Spa, the suite combines a generous living area with views over the Ayung River valley.
The refurbishment also incorporates sustainability considerations into the design and construction approach. Rather than rebuilding the suites, the existing framework was optimised and refurbished, reducing the requirement for new materials. Where new materials were required, the resort selected options based on longevity and local sourcing wherever possible.
The suites also feature next-generation air conditioning systems using environmentally responsible refrigerants, alongside LED lighting designed for energy efficiency. These measures form part of the resort’s wider sustainability-led refresh while retaining the existing accommodation framework.
