August 11, 2026, Bangkok, Thailand — Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC), Thailand’s leading integrated lifestyle real estate group, is expanding its hospitality portfolio along the Chao Phraya River with a new ultra-luxury hotel investment valued at approximately THB 2.9 billion. The planned development will add another destination to AWC’s “AWC Riverside Journey,” a portfolio connecting hospitality, lifestyle, cultural and community experiences across Bangkok’s riverside landscape.
The new hotel is planned for a prime riverside location at the property currently known as River Garden. AWC intends to transform the site into an 18-storey ultra-luxury hotel operating under the world-renowned Plaza Athénée brand. The property is planned to comprise 146 rooms across more than 20,000 square metres of gross floor area, with an opening scheduled for 2028. The development will combine hospitality, wellness, dining and lifestyle experiences within its direct waterfront setting.
The investment forms part of AWC’s broader strategy for developing the “AWC Riverside Journey,” which currently connects 11 AWC lifestyle destinations along the Chao Phraya River, with additional destinations planned. Rather than positioning the new hotel as an individual property, the development is being integrated into a wider network of AWC destinations, landmarks and riverside communities throughout Bangkok.
For AWC’s hospitality portfolio, the development adds another ultra-luxury asset to a collection of destinations spanning different segments of Bangkok’s visitor and lifestyle landscape. The company’s existing riverside network includes Asiatique The Riverfront Destination, The Hotel Plaza Athénée Bangkok and The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok, The Riverside, which is also scheduled to open in 2028. The journey connects these destinations with riverside neighbourhoods and cultural areas including Song Wat, Yaowaraj and Woeng Nakorn Kasem.
The new project is also structured around the commercial and experiential connectivity of the Chao Phraya River. AWC describes the “AWC Riverside Journey” as bringing together Bangkok’s history, art, culture, communities and local way of life with contemporary experiences. Across the 11 existing AWC lifestyle destinations, the concept covers hospitality, dining, lifestyle, culture, creativity and community experiences.
A shared “Co-living” lobby concept is planned as another point of connection between AWC properties. The concept is intended to provide welcoming spaces where guests can meet, relax and experience river views and distinctive experiences across the Chao Phraya. The approach links the individual properties within the wider AWC portfolio while maintaining their connection with the surrounding riverside environment and communities.
The location also places the planned hotel within a broader network of established Bangkok landmarks. The “AWC Riverside Journey” connects its destinations with the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, Wat Pho, the Flower Market and Chinatown, alongside riverside neighbourhoods and cultural districts. These connections form part of AWC’s development of a journey between different areas of Bangkok through the Chao Phraya River.
Beyond the new hotel, AWC is continuing to develop additional components of the riverside portfolio. The company plans to add MONA Bangkok as a destination for art, creativity and culture, while also developing the World’s First Sustainable Cross-River Cable Car. The planned cable car is intended to create new ways to move across, connect with and experience the Chao Phraya River.
The planned Plaza Athénée property will contribute another hospitality component to this expanding network. Its direct waterfront location is designed to bring hospitality, wellness, dining and lifestyle experiences together while providing another connection point between the river and surrounding communities. The hotel is scheduled for completion and opening in 2028, adding to AWC’s pipeline of riverside hospitality destinations.
Mrs. Wallapa Traisorat, Chief Executive Officer and President of Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC), described the Chao Phraya River as central to Bangkok’s communities, history, culture and people. She said the “AWC Riverside Journey” is inspired by this heritage and connects 11 AWC lifestyle destinations along the river, bringing together Bangkok’s history, art, culture, communities and local way of living across AWC properties.
The THB 2.9 billion development therefore sits within a wider portfolio expansion along one of Bangkok’s key riverside corridors. With 146 planned rooms, more than 20,000 square metres of gross floor area and an 18-storey structure, the planned Plaza Athénée hotel represents a new investment within AWC’s expanding collection of hospitality and lifestyle destinations. Its planned 2028 opening will coincide with the continued development of the broader “AWC Riverside Journey,” alongside other planned destinations and experiences along the Chao Phraya River.
