Meliá Pattaya Hotel has appointed Alexander Lopez as its new general manager, strengthening the leadership team of the property that opened in Pattaya, Thailand, in February last year. The appointment was announced by Meliá Hotels International on June 10, 2026.
Located in the center of Pattaya and within easy reach of Bangkok, the 234-room hotel has welcomed Lopez to oversee its operations and support its ongoing development in one of Thailand’s most active tourism destinations.
Lopez brings extensive hospitality experience gained across Europe and Asia, including more than a decade of leadership experience in Thailand. His appointment comes after serving as general manager of W Koh Samui, a position he held for more than two years.
Before leading W Koh Samui, Lopez worked at W Maldives, where he first joined as resort manager before taking on the role of interim general manager. His hospitality career spans multiple international destinations and includes operational and leadership responsibilities across luxury hotels and resorts.
Born to Swedish and Spanish heritage, Lopez studied hotel and hospitality management at Les Roches International School of Hotel Management. Following his academic training, he began his hospitality career in 2009 at Sheraton Stockholm Hotel in Sweden.
Since then, he has held senior positions in several countries, including Spain, Switzerland, China, the Maldives, and Thailand. His professional journey has exposed him to a broad range of hospitality markets and operational environments, contributing to a diverse management background in both urban and resort destinations.
Thailand has played a significant role in Lopez’s career progression. In addition to his recent tenure at W Koh Samui, he has served in senior leadership positions at Vana Belle, a Luxury Collection Resort in Koh Samui, and The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa in Phuket.
His industry involvement has also extended beyond individual hotel operations. Lopez previously served on the W Hotels Global Brand GM Advisory Board and the Marriott International Rooms Advisory Board APEC, participating in advisory initiatives related to hotel management and guest experience within the hospitality sector.
According to Meliá Hotels International, Lopez’s familiarity with Thailand and experience in luxury hospitality were among the factors supporting his appointment to the Pattaya property.
Ignacio Martin, Managing Director Asia Pacific at Meliá Hotels International, said Lopez’s professional background positions him to lead the hotel’s next phase of development.
“Alexander’s extensive luxury hospitality experience, particularly his deep familiarity with Thailand, make him exceptionally well placed to lead Meliá Pattaya Hotel,” Martin said.
“His strong operational leadership and understanding of guest expectations in this region place him in excellent stead to oversee the hotel’s continued growth.”

The brand operates more than 100 city and resort hotels across key leisure and business destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Its portfolio includes properties catering to both leisure travelers and the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) segment.
Meliá Hotels International, founded in Mallorca, Spain, in 1956, currently operates more than 380 hotels across more than 40 countries through a portfolio of brands that includes Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts, Paradisus by Meliá, ME by Meliá, Meliá Hotels & Resorts, The Meliá Collection, INNSiDE by Meliá, Sol by Meliá, Falcon’s Resorts by Meliá, and affiliated hotels under the Affiliated by Meliá network.
Within Thailand, Meliá Pattaya Hotel forms part of a broader hospitality landscape supported by international hotel operators and local development partners. The property is associated with Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC), a Thailand-based integrated lifestyle real estate group and member of TCC Group.
AWC manages a diversified portfolio spanning hospitality assets, commercial workspaces, and lifestyle destinations across the country. The company collaborates with several international hospitality groups, including Marriott International, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Nobu Hospitality, Okura Hotels, Banyan Tree, Melia International, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Accor, and Hyatt.
Its hospitality and mixed-use developments are located in strategic destinations throughout Thailand, with a focus on supporting tourism and real estate growth. The company also advances sustainability initiatives through its Better Planet, Better People, and Better Prosperity framework.
For Lopez, the move to Meliá Pattaya Hotel marks a continuation of a career that has been closely connected with Thailand’s hospitality industry. Having spent more than ten years in leadership roles across the country’s resort sector, he now takes responsibility for guiding operations at a hotel positioned in one of the nation’s key tourism hubs.
“It’s an honour to join Meliá Pattaya Hotel at such an exciting stage in its journey,” Lopez said.
“Thailand has played a defining role in my career, and I look forward to working with the team to build on the hotel’s momentum in Pattaya.”
