Singapore, 13 July 2026 — New findings from Agoda's 2026 Travel Outlook Report indicate that Generation Z travelers across Asia are making travel a more frequent part of their lifestyles while placing greater emphasis on experiences, sustainability, and seamless booking journeys. The research outlines changing travel behaviors that present new opportunities for businesses across the travel and hospitality ecosystem to strengthen customer engagement through more integrated travel experiences.
The survey found that experiences remain the primary motivation behind Gen Z travel decisions. Cultural exploration ranked as the leading driver, with 32% of respondents identifying it as their main reason for traveling. Outdoor activities followed at 30%, while 28% cited culinary experiences.
The findings suggest that younger travelers increasingly plan trips around what they can experience at their destination rather than focusing solely on transportation or accommodation. Agoda notes that businesses can respond by curating destination-specific experiences, offering exclusive member benefits such as attraction discounts, activity packages, and dining privileges, while bundling these elements into connected travel offerings.
Travel frequency is also increasing among younger travelers. Nearly 73% of Gen Z respondents said they expect to take between one and six trips annually, while 86% plan trips lasting between one and seven days.
The combination of shorter but more frequent trips creates recurring opportunities for businesses to engage travelers throughout the year. Agoda said organizations can extend the value of loyalty programs by integrating earning and redemption into the booking journey while presenting personalized travel offers based on destination preferences or previous booking history. Flights and travel activities can also be incorporated directly into digital platforms to create a more connected customer experience.
Sustainability continues to influence travel decisions among younger consumers. According to Agoda's 2026 Sustainable Travel Survey, 23% of Gen Z travelers choose to travel during off-peak periods to reduce their environmental impact, while 38% actively seek accommodations with recognized sustainability certifications.
The research indicates that sustainability can become a more visible component of the travel journey through features such as highlighting certified accommodations, offering eligible reward incentives, or allowing travelers to filter accommodation options based on sustainability credentials.
Damien Pfirsch, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Rocket Travel by Agoda, said Gen Z travelers increasingly expect travel discovery and booking to be integrated into the digital platforms they already use. He said younger travelers plan around experiences while looking for a straightforward journey from discovery to booking and rewards that align with both their budgets and sustainability priorities.
Agoda said embedded travel infrastructure enables partners to integrate accommodations, flights, and travel activities directly into their own digital ecosystems. Through this approach, travelers can search, book, earn, and redeem rewards without leaving the partner's platform, creating a more connected booking experience.
The company said the integrated model allows travel experiences to become part of existing loyalty ecosystems while supporting stronger engagement and additional travel revenue opportunities for partners.
Agoda's strategic partnerships business, Rocket Travel by Agoda, currently supports partner-branded travel platforms for loyalty programs, including Southwest Airlines' Rapid Rewards and China Airlines' StayMiles platform.
The findings combine insights from two studies conducted through Agoda's platform. The 2026 Travel Outlook Report surveyed 3,353 respondents across nine Asian markets in October 2025, including India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The 2026 Sustainable Travel Survey collected responses from 1,036 respondents in February 2026 across eight Asian markets: India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
