IHG to open triple-branded hotel in Universal Studios Japan

The hotel will combine the InterContinental, Kimpton, and Holiday Inn Resort brands.

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has entered into an agreement with Sakurajima Kaihatsu and Keihanshin Building to develop a triple-branded hotel project in Japan.

The new-build development will bring InterContinental, Kimpton, and Holiday Inn Resort to Universal Studios Japan (USJ) as adjoining properties and official USJ hotels. It marks IHG’s largest project and the company’s first tri-brand hotel in Japan.

Scheduled to open in 2029, the development will comprise 817 rooms and will be the only internationally branded hotel properties at Universal Studios Japan.

Totaling 817 keys, this trio of adjoining properties will operate as official Universal Studios Japan hotels and the only internationally branded hotels in the area when they open in 2029.

The development will combine 244 keys from the InterContinental hotel, 246 from the Kimpton hotel, and 327 keys from the Holiday Inn Resort. Each property will feature its own amenities, including dining outlets, swimming pools, meeting and event spaces, and gyms.

“IHG’s growth continues apace in Japan where we have 57 open hotels across 10 brands and 20 pipeline properties. This trio of exceptional new-build hotels will expand our current portfolio of 10 properties in Osaka and 12 in the wider Kansai region,” Abhijay Sandilya, Managing Director, Japan & Micronesia at IHG Hotels & Resorts and CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan said.
