Macau records hotel occupancy growth in 2025
This was driven by the rise in international visitors and visitors from Mainland China.
Macau’s average occupancy rate of hotel guest rooms stood at 89.4% in 2025, rising 3.1 percentage points (pp) year-over-year (YoY), according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
By hotel type, occupancy rates for 5-star hotels rose 4.4 pp to 92.9%, 4-star hotels increased 1.8 pp to 83.8%, and 3-star hotels grew 1.2 pp to 85.0%.
The number of guests accommodated by hotel establishments also rose 1.0% YoY to 14.6 million, with an average length of stay at 1.7 nights. This growth was led by guests from Mainland China, which increased 1.4% to 10.7 million.
International guests grew 11.8% YoY to 1.2 million, with notable increases from Korea (350,000; +9.3%), Japan (102,000; +25.5%), Malaysia (93,000; +6.5%), and Thailand (88,000; +33.4%). Meanwhile, visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region fell 4.1% to 1,774,000.
For inbound package tour visitors, figures dropped 9.7% YoY to 1.9 million. This decline was mainly due to a 15.7% fall in visitors from the mainland to 1.6 million, as more of them opted for individual visits under the Individual Visit Scheme. On the other hand, international tour visitors increased 17.2% to 240,000.
In December alone, the hotel occupancy rate rose 1.2 percentage points to 90.4%, while the number of guests increased 5.6% YoY to 1.25 million. A total of 181,000 inbound package tour visitors were recorded, down 11.9% YoY, whereas international tour visitors grew 26.4% to 28,000.
