Japan set for a wave of new hotel openings in 2026

Honshu, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Kyoto will see new hotel openings next year.

Several new hotel openings are set for 2026 in Japan, including the rebranded Hilton Takayama Resort, two lifestyle properties by RIHGA in Osaka and Fukuoka, and the boutique Imperial Hotel, Kyoto.

Here’s what you can expect from these hotels:

Hilton Takayama Resort

Hilton has partnered with Central Japan Railway Company and its subsidiaries, JR Tokai Real Estate and JR Tokai Hotels, to open a rebranded Hilton flagship hotel in Gifu Prefecture.

Under the agreement, the Hilton Takayama Resort will continue to be operated by JR Tokai Hotels.

Hilton will add new 90-square-meter suites to its existing 70-square-meter suites, bringing the hotel’s total to 283 rooms. The renovated property will also feature a new executive lounge for Hilton Honors Diamond members and guests in select rooms, along with a new fitness center.

JR Central Group currently operates 16 hotels under the Hotel Associa and Takayama Resort brands in urban and resort locations from Hokkaido to Okinawa.

“Takayama's easy access to popular tourist destinations in urban and nearby areas is expected to further boost visitor numbers. With the strong partnership of these three companies, we are preparing for the opening in the fall of 2026,”Hirohisa Fujimoto, vice president of development, for Japan & Micronesia at Hilton, said.

The RIHGA Royal Hotel Group will launch two new hotel brands targeting young local and foreign tourists looking to experience local cultures in Osaka and Fukuoka.

ANCHORED by RIHGA Osaka Namba, located at Nipponbashi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka, will have approximately 201 keys. Slated to open in April 2026, the hotel is within 2 minutes walk from Ebisucho Station on the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line.

BOUNCEE by RIHGA Fukuoka Hakata, scheduled for opening in Fall 2026, will feature 117 rooms, mainly twin rooms, with space-saving designs like suitcase storage under the bed and shower-only booths. The hotel will also have a bar on the second floor with table and terrace seating.

It is located in Gionmachi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka, Right next to Kushida Shrine Station on the Fukuoka City Subway, or 10 minutes walk from JR Hakata Station

Imperial Hotel, Kyoto

In Spring 2026, Imperial Hotel will open the Imperial Hotel, Kyoto, a 55-room, seven-story boutique hotel.

Scheduled for completion in October this year, the Imperial Hotel, Kyoto will offer dining experiences, a signature bar, as well as wellness amenities including a spa, swimming pool, and fitness center.

It will be the fourth property in the Imperial Hotel portfolio, following launches in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kamikochi.
